This contemporary photography contest’s goal is to promote artists within the university community. Through this project, this community’s aesthetic and creative values are fostered. In this edition and the following, all the other Spanish universities will be invited, as well as university communities from other countries, in order to promote other territories’ sociocultural realities through contemporary photography.
All members of the university community (students and teaching, investigating, administration and service staff) from Spanish, Moroccan, German and US universities can participate. In addition, Andalusian public university graduates from the 2018/2019 school year onwards are also allowed to participate.
The work’s topic will be free of choice.
The deadline to submit the works will be May 10th 2021.
The works will be submitted through the inscription form found in www.contemporarte.net, where the work’s files must be uploaded. A maximum of two individual pictures or one series per author will be admitted. The maximum number of pictures in a series is four.
The pictures must be submitted as JPG files. The name of each file must correspond with the name of each work. Each picture must have a minimum size of 2500 x 1800 pixels, and must not exceed 10Mb. In case of submittal of series, the images must be adjusted to not exceed 10Mb in total. In this case, the files must be numbered in the corresponding order of the series. (Example: nude1.jpg, nude2.jpg, nude3.jpg…). The pictures that do not comply with the requirements will not be considered. The organisation might decide whether the picture’s resolution and definition are correct.
The author must value each of the works presented, for their future assessment by the Jury, at up to 700 euros per individual work and up to 1000 for the complete series (two to four pictures)
The organisation will be in charge of the production of the works, according to the formats 100x70cm, 70x100cm, or 100x100cm. The works which do not correspond to the standard printing formats (printing on wood, paint application or texture on the printing, etc.) must be perfectly specified in the section called “About the work” found in the inscription form.
The contest has an option to buy which the jury will execute at their own discretion. The purchases will be subject to tax according to the current Spanish tax laws. In order to receive the prize, it will be a prerequisite to present a university identity card. The ruling of the contest will be made public by the end of June 2021. The prizes may be declared void.
The jury will be formed by members of the contest’s organisation, Vice rectors of the Andalusian Public Universities and renowned professional photographers. It will be the contest’s organising team who will shortlist the works susceptible to being purchased.
The jury will make a ruling according to the following selection criteria: originality, artistic quality and technique.
Once the decision is made and the authors are notified, they must submit the winning pictures through: any platform which allows the download and sending of large files (Dropbox, Google Drive, Wetransfer,…).
The pictures must be sent in the highest possible quality, with a minimum of 300ppp. The winning authors must also present, related to the acceptance of the prize, as well as a work’s transfer of rights document. Any breach of these conditions will mean the cancellation of the prize. The jury’s verdict will be final.
The acquired works will be made part of the Atalaya Project Heritage catalogue, of the Andalusian Public Universities of which the University of Huelva, as the organiser of the contest, will custody and keep for its exhibition and promotion.
A digital and printed catalogue with the acquired pictures will be edited. Furthermore, the produced works will be sent to all the Andalusian public universities that request them, within the deadlines established after the jury’s ruling, so that the pictures can be shown at these universities.
The authors guarantee that the image is original, that they are the legitimate owners of all the rights inherent to the picture and that it does not breach third party rights. The University of Huelva will not be held responsible of any damages produced by the breach of this guarantee, taking legal action, if needed, to redress the damages caused by this breach.
Rights over the acquired pictures
In accordance with the Intellectual Property Law, the author of the pictures owns the copyright which allow him to make use of his work in expositions, social networks, websites… mentioning the University of Huelva as the owner of the winning work. Therefore, the author transfers the copyright exclusively to the University of Huelva, as the contest organiser, who will not receive any economic benefit from the exploitation of these rights in any case. These rights entail the exploitation of the acquired pictures and the reproduction, distribution, public communication and transformation in any media, format, or support, known to date or not. The University of Huelva will also mention the authorship in any publishing and exhibition of the works.
